All the fashions you thought you’d never see again are making a comeback, including tri-fold bandanas, ’80s blush, and even glitter makeup reminiscent of a mid-2000s middle school dance. Hair tinsel is the most recent addition to that list. In early 2010, hair salons began carrying the tie-in iridescent strands as an economical way to add dimension and dramatic highlights to hair. Hair tinsel was fashionable for a short time, but it faded rapidly after a few years.
Hair tinsel rise in popularity might have famous roots. On her 2019 tour, Kacey Musgraves donned a tinsel ponytail that has been imitated by hair businesses like Insert Name Here. Saoirse Ronan rocked a similar look. Hair tinsel is exactly what it sounds like: small tinsel strands tied to hair stands to create subtle shine. Tinsel is a fun method to play around with your hair without making any serious or long-term alterations (such as a big color transformation). Black, silver, pink, rose gold, gold, blue, purple, and multicolored are just some of the hues available.
Hair tinseling process
Hair tinsel is comparable to micro ring extensions in terms of application. After the hair has been cleaned and blow-dried, strands of tinsel (each one is two pieces of tinsel folded over to make it feel like four pieces) are affixed to very small areas of hair at the root with micro rings. May explained. “Fine, hair-like sparkles shimmer from the mid-lengths to the ends as a consequence.”
Dunn’s hair is made up of about 12 strands in three various hues (pink, rose gold, and gold) that were chosen to complement her natural auburn tint. It took around 15 minutes to apply and was “simple, painless, and uncomplicated.”
Hair tinsel care
Because the tinsel is stable in the hair, you may clean and condition it as usual, taking additional care to gently massage your roots around the rings with shampoo. When it comes to styling, the tinsel can resist up to 200 degrees of heat, so you can use your regular hair drier or straighteners. You may always ask your hairdresser for advice if you’re unsure about a certain style.
Hair tinsel long
May advise her clients to keep the Hair tinsel on for little more than six to eight weeks. This is due to the nature of the application, which, like extensions, can cause harm to the hair strands linked to the tinsel if left on for too long. The more you take care of the tinsel, like with other things in life, the longer it will stay. “All clients are invited to return for a removal-only session, which takes no more than 15 minutes, unless you want it reapply,” May stated.
How to put in Hair tinsels?
Dunn would absolutely want extra strands added if she had it again to make the tinsel shine out more. “Isn’t it true that if you’re doing tinsel hair, you should go big or go home?” she said. Starting with fewer strands was a terrific way to get a feel for tinsel. Dunn also mentioned that the tinsel isn’t biodegradable or environmentally friendly, so if she had it done again, she’d ask if they could reuse the same strands.
Sure, taking care of the Hair tinsel and tiny rings takes a little additional effort. And, at over $50 a pop, it’s clearly a luxury, but it’s well worth it. “How come?” you might wonder? It’s time to get started with the actual application when you’ve decided where and how much hair tinsel to use. Use hair clips to hold back other hair while you isolate the root of the hairs you wish to attach the fairy hair to. Each strand of hair tinsel will be tied with a slip knot.
To build a slip knot with hair tinsel, fold the strand in half and find the center point. To make a loop, crises cross the strand’s tails. Pinch the loop at the intersection of your thumb and forefinger. Pull the tail of the strand that passed over the top of the other strand into your loop, producing a new loop. And Pull up on the loop until it cinches closed to finish the knot. Pull on the end of the strand that you pulled in to make the loop to tighten your slip knot. Loosen
Hair tinsel removal
Fairy hair is a lot of fun, but it’s not something you’ll want to retain indefinitely. You may easily pluck off your fairy hair if you wish to get rid of it. It will almost always pull the hairs it is clinging to out with it, which can be a little unpleasant. You can always chop out fairy hair to get rid of it. Some strands lasted longer than others, and a couple of them fell out the first night they were worn. However, because we had so many on hand, replacing them and continuing on was a breeze.
This was most likely because to my inadequate application of the first few strands. The ones we installed after I figured it out have lasted far longer. They’ve made it through daily styling and even a few hair washes! We’ll update the post once we know how long they’ll last for us in total.
