Cheap Car Hire in Ras Al-Khaimah: How to Save Money on Your Rental

Car Hire in Ras Al-Khaimah | Quick Drive

Car hire in Ras Al-Khaimah lets you reach Jebel Jais, Al Marjan Island and the emirate’s quieter beaches on your own schedule, and it doesn’t have to cost much. The daily rate is only part of the bill, though. Mileage limits, insurance choices, fuel and the length of your booking all shape what you actually pay.

Why a car makes sense in Ras Al-Khaimah

Ras Al-Khaimah is spread out. The beach resorts at Al Marjan Island and Al Hamra, the old town, the shopping areas and the mountain road up Jebel Jais are all a fair drive from each other. The emirate has a small local bus network, but it won’t get you to most of the places visitors want to see, and taxi fares add up quickly over several days. For most trips, a modest hire car is the cheapest way to get around.

How to keep car hire in Ras Al-Khaimah cheap

Book for the right length of time

Compare rates by the day, not by the headline price. A weekly rate divided by 7 is usually lower than the daily rate, and a monthly rate divided by 30 is lower again. If you’re staying 10 days, price a weekly booking plus three extra days against your daily total before you commit.

Be honest about your dates. If you take a monthly plan and return the car early, the monthly discount is lost, and you’re charged daily rates for the time you had it.

Choose the car for the trip.

The road to the top of Jebel Jais is fully paved, and an ordinary saloon or hatchback handles it without trouble. Off-road and wadi driving isn’t permitted in a standard hire car anyway. A smaller car costs less to hire, and less to fuel, which matters on the long highway stretches between Dubai and RAK.

Watch your mileage allowance.

Quick Drive’s published terms allow 250 km per day on daily rentals, with extra kilometres charged at 50 fils each. That sounds generous until you plan a day trip from Dubai. A return drive from the western side of Dubai to the summit of Jebel Jais can easily pass 250 km. If you’re doing a long day out, ask how the allowance works on your booking before you set off.

Think about insurance before you need it.

Basic insurance comes with the car, but an excess still applies if the car is damaged, even for small scratches and dents. The optional Super Collision Damage Waiver (SCDW) removes that excess on covered damage. Quick Drive lists it at AED 25 per day, or AED 250 on a monthly rental. On a short trip with a lot of mountain and highway driving, it’s often worth the small extra cost.

Two points to check: SCDW doesn’t cover tyres or windscreens, and Quick Drive’s insurance terms cover city and highway driving rather than desert or mountain areas. The Jebel Jais road is a public highway, but confirm your cover with the team if the mountain is the main reason for your trip.

Plan your fuel

Hire cars are returned with the same fuel level you collected them with, and refuelling charges apply if they aren’t. Fill up in Ras Al-Khaimah city before you head for Jebel Jais, as there are very few fuel stations on the mountain road. UAE fuel prices are set monthly, so check the current rate if you’re budgeting for a long trip.

Return the car on time.

Daily rentals are charged in 24-hour blocks, and a late return can add a full extra day to your bill. Agree a realistic return time at pickup, especially if you’re driving back from the mountains in the evening.

No tolls in Ras Al-Khaimah

There are no road toll gates in Ras Al-Khaimah, so once you’re in the emirate you won’t pay anything to use the roads. Salik tolls only apply in Dubai. You’ll still pay for any traffic fines picked up during the rental, plus an admin fee per fine, so stick to the speed limits on the E311 and the mountain road.

Monthly car rental in Ras Al-Khaimah

If you’re living or working in RAK for a while, a monthly car rental is usually the cheapest option. It suits people on contracts in the free zones, families who have just moved to Al Hamra or Mina Al Arab, and anyone staying for a season.

Monthly plans come with a 5,000 km allowance, which covers daily commuting and the occasional trip to Dubai. Quick Drive’s rental policy also lists delivery and collection as free on monthly rentals, and the monthly SCDW rate works out far cheaper than paying for it day by day. Browse the current monthly offers to compare models.

Driving up from Dubai for the weekend

A lot of RAK visitors are Dubai residents heading north for a weekend. If that’s you, hiring close to home is often easier than hiring in RAK. If you live near the Expo area or the port, car rental in Jebel Ali means you can collect the car close to home and head straight for the highway. The same goes for car rental in JLT, Dubai, or car hire from Al Barsha, Dubai, if you’re based closer to Mall of the Emirates.

Your route matters more than you might think. Driving north along Sheikh Zayed Road takes you through Salik gates such as Al Barsha and Al Safa. Heading inland to the E311 (Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road) or the E611 (Emirates Road) avoids them completely, and both run all the way to Ras Al-Khaimah.

What you need to hire a car

UAE residents need a UAE driving licence held for at least one year and an Emirates ID. Tourists need a passport, a visit visa with an entry stamp, their home-country licence, and an International Driving Permit if their licence isn’t accepted on its own. Visitors from the UK, USA and GCC states are generally exempt from the permit.

Ras Al-Khaimah borders Oman, but Quick Drive cars must stay inside the UAE, so a drive into Musandam isn’t an option.
