How Much Does It Cost to Move from Dubai to the UK, US, India or Canada?

ISS Relocations international moving service from Dubai to the UK, USA, India and Canada.

Moving a household from Dubai internationally usually costs somewhere between AED 11,000 and AED 50,000+, depending mostly on where you’re going, how much you’re shipping and whether you choose a shared or full container. India is the cheapest of these four routes, followed by the UK and Canada, with the US at the top. Your final price depends on the size of your move, the service level and current freight conditions, so a written quote based on your inventory is the only reliable number.

Indicative Costs by Destination

These are ballpark ranges for a full-container household move by sea from Dubai:

  • Dubai to the UK:UAE to UK full-container rates are listed at roughly $4,000 to $10,000 (about AED 15,000 to 37,000). Rates in this corridor move sharply with shipping disruption. One industry source noted a 20ft container to the UK costing AED 40,000 to 50,000 at the height of regional disruption, easing to around AED 28,000 to 32,000 more recently.
  • Dubai to the US:UAE to USA full-container rates are listed at roughly $6,000 to $14,000 (about AED 22,000 to 51,000). The longer route and inland delivery push it up.
  • Dubai to India:A dedicated 20ft container from Dubai to India averages around AED 11,000 to 15,000, depending on the final destination. This is the shortest route of the four.
  • Dubai to Canada: A 20ft container is quoted at around AED 20,000 to 25,000, and a 40ft container at AED 32,000 to 36,000, with the final price depending on your destination city.

Shared (LCL) shipping costs less for small moves, but it takes longer because your goods wait for the container to fill and be unloaded.

What Decides the Cost of Your Move?

1. Volume of belongings

The amount you ship is the biggest cost driver. As a rough guide, a 20ft container suits a 2-to-3-bedroom home and a 40ft container suits a 4-bedroom villa or larger. Decluttering before you pack is the simplest way to cut costs.

2. Shared vs full container

  • Shared (LCL): you pay for the space you use. This suits studios and small apartments, but transit is slower.
  • Full container (FCL): you get sole use of a 20ft or 40ft container, which is better for full households and usually faster.
  • Air freight: much faster and much more expensive. It makes sense for essentials only, and for items you’ll need on arrival you can use our baggage services.

3. Destination and delivery point

Port-to-port is cheaper than door-to-door. Inland delivery, remote addresses and limited truck access all add cost.

4. Service level

Quotes differ on whether they include professional packing, crating, unpacking, assembly or storage. Compare like with like, because a cheaper quote often leaves services out.

5. Customs and destination charges

Customs rules and fees vary by country, and household goods can be inspected on arrival. Our customs clearance team handles the paperwork so delays don’t turn into storage charges.

6. Timing and market conditions

Freight rates change with season, carrier capacity and global disruption. Moving in peak summer or during route disruption can raise prices noticeably.

7. Insurance

Cover is a separate cost, usually a percentage of declared value. It is worth having for an overseas move. See our transit insurance.

Cost Considerations by Destination

Moving to the UK: Shipping is usually reasonable compared with the US or Canada, but UK-bound rates have swung with regional disruption. Many people also bring pets, so check our guide to the Pet Relocation Checker. Full details are on our Move to UK page.

Moving to the US: This is the longest route, with higher freight and often inland delivery. A larger move may justify a 40ft container. Start planning on our Move to USA page.

Moving to India: This is the most affordable of the four, with shorter transit. Delivery to smaller towns and customs handling are the main variables. See Move to India.

Moving to Canada: Costs depend heavily on your destination city and whether you need inland delivery. See Move to Canada.

How to Lower the Cost of Your Move

  1. Ship less. Sell or donate bulky, low-value furniture, since replacing it is often cheaper than shipping it.
  2. Get itemised quotes from several movers and compare what each includes. Our guide on how to verify a legitimate mover helps you avoid unreliable quotes.
  3. Book early, ideally 6 to 8 weeks ahead, to avoid rush pricing.
  4. Be flexible on dates. Shipping outside peak periods can cost less.
  5. Pack smart. Our moving tips and moving guide show how to protect your goods and avoid damage claims.
